What a year! Covid restrictions persisted with some easing for travel, restaurants and concerts. The driest spring on record in British Columbia was followed by record high temperatures (+45) and raging forest fires which destroyed the town of Litton. The valley was largely spared although a bit smoky at times. In the early winter record rains destroyed the highways and rail lines linking Vancouver to the rest of Canada and submerged several towns. Here again the valley was spared. We are, however, keeping our eyes out for locusts
With borders closed we explored closer to home and used the Beast (my new used S6) for some trips to the East and West Kootenays and Canmore/Banff, and found time for a few long motorbike rides and a camping trip. (click on photo to enlarge)
We spent the winter snowshoeing, cross country skiing, making sausages, building stair railings, writing letters to the Globe and Mail (and getting some printed!), and dining with friends. We switched to golfing in mid-March (9 and breakfast, and 9 and dinner).
On the home front, we made two steel light posts for the driveway, more cabinets, expanded the garden and irrigation, and poured the foundations for a teahouse and cedar ofuro. Continued decluttering led to sales of treasures (and our old pickup truck). Great harvest from the garden (including hundreds of tomatoes) and the driveway now has a hard rolled recycled asphalt surface. Dave managed to injure his leg through overuse late in the year but hopes to be on the ski slopes very soon.
Not the year we imagined or desired but we enjoyed it none the less and look forward to further adventures farther afield next year.
